LOCAL LAWS AND CUSTOMS
Religion:
Afghanistan is a Muslim country governed by Islamic Law/Sharia. It therefore has different laws and customs regarding religion, marriage and sexual relations. When traveling in Afghanistan, act conservatively and be careful not to offend local religious beliefs. You should never try to convert Muslims to other religions. Don’t forget that you can’t hug or kiss your wife in public. If you are a man, never touch, look at or talk to an Afghan woman in public.
Clothing:
Visitors should dress conservatively in Afghanistan. Women should always wear a headscarf and loose clothing that covers their arms and legs. Wearing local clothes is not compulsory, but it is considered a sign of respect for the local culture. Our guides will be happy to take you to local stores to buy clothes.
Food and drink:
It is illegal to import and consume alcohol and pork products. Drink only bottled water. Don’t leave your drinks unattended and never accept an open bottle from strangers. During Ramadan (Islam’s holy month), Muslims are not allowed to eat, drink or smoke during the day. To avoid offense, you should not eat, drink or smoke in public during this period. We’ll help you do it privately.
Photo:
Photographing government buildings, military installations and palaces is not allowed. You should avoid photographing women and other local people without their consent. Our guides can help you with this.
Currency:
In Afghanistan, cash is used. The local currency is Afghani, but American dollars and euros are also available. Our guides will take you to a currency exchange office.
Vaccination:
It is not a requirement to enter Afghanistan, but it is advisable to check this situation before leaving your country. It is advisable to check that you have up-to-date vaccinations against tetanus, hepatitis A and typhoid fever.
We recommend an online traveler’s consultation with Dra. Andreia, we can make the appointment.Driving:
Driving in Afghanistan can be a challenge. Driving on the other side of the road and dealing with unfamiliar traffic laws can be a stressful situation. You may have to deal with bad roads, poor lighting and bad driving. If you want to drive and rent a car, bring your international driving license.
Accommodation:
Accommodation will be in a private room in a secure hotel or guest house.
Reporting a crime:
If you are the victim of a crime, report it to the local (Taliban) police. They are the current government of Afghanistan and will protect it if that happens.
