After climbing the 328 steps to the top of Mount Phousi, you'll be rewarded with a panoramic view of the city of Luang Prabang and its surroundings. You'll then visit the Vat Mai, built at the end of the 18th century, a well-respected shrine with an impressive roof. Here you can see the Phra Bang Buddha, considered the most precious item in Laos, which also gave the city its name. Then you'll head to Vat Xieng Thong, the temple of the Royal City, a complex of shrines and sacred temples displaying some of the finest articles of traditional Lao art and undoubtedly the most beautiful place in Luang Prabang. And finally, you'll visit Vat Visoun, the oldest temple in the city, which stands out from the rest thanks to That Makmo, a stone stupa representing a lotus flower. At the end of your visit, try some typical Lao dishes on a short gastronomic tour. The Flavors of Laos: Eating is an important part of Laotian culture and represents a time for families and friends to get together and spend time after a hard day's work. Tonight, your taste buds will awaken from their slumber with a tasting of a selection of popular Lao dishes during a gastronomic tour of an area close to the city center. You'll enjoy a delicious glass of one of Laos' star dishes: Khao Soi or Pho. This is one of the most famous dishes, not just in Laos, but throughout Southeast Asia. After a stroll through this enchanting countryside, you'll reach Ban Thapene, the village at the entrance to the Kuang Sy Falls. At the end of the visit, transfer to a local house to take part in the traditional Baci ceremony: You will be invited to attend the Baci (Sou Khouan) ceremony, one of the most popular traditions in Laos that accompanies every important event in life: weddings, funerals, births, illnesses, trips, etc. The ceremony is usually celebrated in front of a few people, a "recipient" or two, the "officiator" and those "in attendance". However, for big occasions such as weddings, dozens of people can get together. During the ceremony, the person officiating will make a kind of call to your souls (according to a Laotian belief, each human being has 32 souls) to attract positive influences and then tie a cotton string around your wrist to symbolize the wishes they have made for you. Walking time to Ban Nong Heo: 1h 30min Level: 0 Distance from Luang Prabang to Ban Nong Heo: 50 minutes [Ativo de sustentabilidade] A day full of experiences. This morning's walking tour and excursion supports the local community of Ban Nong Heo, of the Khmu ethnic minority, and provides them with both employment for local guides and funds for community development. In Kuang Sy, the bear sanctuary is a treatment and rehabilitation center run by an NGO that takes care of bears rescued from poaching and the illegal wildlife trade. The afternoon Baci ceremony helps to preserve one of Laos' most famous Buddhist-Animist traditions; as well as providing economic support to the community, it encourages them to preserve their traditions. You feel drawn to this culturally significant moment, which takes place peacefully and respectfully, with no words exchanged between the monks and the locals who make the offerings. After this wonderful example of humility, your guide will take you to the local market, a place full of life. After a visit to the market, you'll be taken to a cozy local restaurant on the banks of the Mekong River for an energizing local breakfast. If you're not in the mood for soup in the morning, you can also enjoy a delicious coffee while observing the residents' daily routine. And then back to the hotel for a full breakfast.
