Day 2
Marraquexe - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate
We'll start our journey into the desert, driving to Ouarzazate via the dramatic Tizi 'n' Tichka pass (2260m), crossing the Atlas Mountains, enjoying the beauty of the landscape on the winding roads through the Berber villages. Arriving at the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, the largest Kasbah in Morocco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and home to many members of the Glaoui family, we will have lunch next to the Kasbah and then go on a tour of the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, before continuing on to Ouarzazate, “the Hollywood of Africa”. In Ouarzazate we will have the chance to visit the Atlas Studio, the Cinema Museum and the Kasbah Taourirt before arriving at our hotel.
Day 3
Ouarzazate - Todra Gorges - Sahara Desert
After breakfast at the hotel, we drive along the ‘Road of a Thousand Kasbahs’ - the fascinating ‘sand castles’. We stopped in Kalaat M'Gouna, ‘the city of roses’, known for its roses and its annual festival during the rose harvest in May. Leaving the Dades Valley and the Valley of the Roses towards the Todra Gorges, you'll see panoramic views of the ancient Berber mud villages overlooking the valley. Once you reach the Todra Gorge, you'll have the chance to walk under the 300m-high red cliff, where many climbers come to practise their favourite sport. We continue to Erfoud and Rissani, where we have lunch before heading to the Merzouga Desert, where your camel will be waiting for you, led by an experienced camel guide, to explore the mysterious sand dunes of the Erg-Chebbi Desert. Accommodation in a beautiful luxury camp in the desert.
Day 4
Sahara Desert
Wake up early to enjoy the breathtaking sunrise. After breakfast, we'll leave the camp by jeep, where we'll have an adventurous experience traveling through the desert dunes. After this adventure you will explore the surrounding area, including small villages such as Khamlia, known for its Gnawa music played by the local black community. You will then visit the local market (souk) in Rissani where you can shop like the locals. After lunch, you'll be driven back to your hotel to relax. The afternoon is free to spend as you wish.
