Dream trip, in winter through Kyrgyzstan.
This is a unique opportunity to get to know this magnificent Asian country and to be able to learn its culture and traditions up close.
On this trip, you will have the opportunity to walk through the mountains and enjoy its fantastic landscapes, you will get to know the country’s capital, and you will have the chance to ride a horse-drawn sleigh. You will also have the opportunity to see the second highest lake in the world, learn and enjoy one of Kyrgyzstan’s typical dishes cooked by a local family, see how the famous tapes and cushions are produced in a community of women and much more.
You will no doubt enjoy sleeping in a yurt tent and seeing how a hunter and the birds work together in a unique hunting practice.
Flight from your place of origin to Bishkek
Arrival at “Manas” airport early in the morning, meet “Ak-Sai Travel” team.
Transfer to Bishkek. Hotel accommodation (including early check-in).
Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast we will travel to the Ala Archa Nature Park, situated in the picturesque gorge of the same name about 40 km from the city of Bishkek.
In the Park territory you can walk through the Ak Sai Pass (a side pass of the main Ala Archa Pass) to enjoy views of the magnificent peaks of the Alatau Kirguiso Range (Tien Shan Mountains). If you don’t share the desire for a long walk, you can take a stroll along the river in the main gorge of Ala Archa.
Return to the city after the tour.
Lunch in a local restaurant and afternoon city tour of Bishkek: Ala Too Central Square, White House, Parliament House, Lenin Statue, Oaks Park. Visit of the local museum (to be chosen). Visit of the Osh market. Osh museums and market are closed on Mondays.
Return to the hotel and afternoon at your leisure. Rest.
After breakfast, we leave Bishkek and drive along the Chui Valley. On the way, we visited the Burana Tower, which is near the town of Tokmok.
The Burana Tower is a minaret listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in the 11th century on a territory called Balasagun, it was an important trading post on the Silk Road. In this archaeological complex located 80 km from Bishkek you can visit the Burana Tower, a collection of balls (hand-made statues) and a small museum with pieces found during excavations. (The visit takes about an hour. Light walking, but wear good shoes as the stairs to the top of the tower are very steep).
Lunch at a local family’s home. After lunch, transfer to the Chon Kemin valley. On arrival, accommodation in a guest house.
Until dinner, we will have some free time and put it to good use. First we will take a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the Chon Kemin Valley. Approx. duration 2 to 3 hours.
If there is still time, we can walk around the village and climb up to the place with the panoramic view (up to 2 km one way) (1,5 hour one way +200 m).
Dinner and overnight stay at the guest house.
Optional: bathe in an indoor swimming pool for an additional fee (to be paid locally).
Optional: Demonstration of lifting a yurta
*The Yurt is a traditional dwelling of the nomadic peoples of Central Asia. Transportable and round in shape, it is made of a wooden frame, covered with wool felt.
After breakfast, we drive along the northern shore of Issyk Kul Lake through the Boom Gorge.
Lake Issyk-Kul, the second largest alpine lake in the world after Titicaca in South America. It is 182 km long by 58 km wide, receives heat from the lake bed and never freezes, even during the harshest of winters. Extremely deep but with warm waters, this lake has been something of an oasis in the inhospitable mountain environment. With a vast diversity of flora and fauna in the surrounding areas, Issyk Kul is considered one of the most remarkable places in Central Asia.
Transfer to the town of Cholpon Ata and free lunch.
Here we have several visitors:
1) Open-air petroglyph site with panoramic views of Issyk Kul lake and snow-capped mountains.
2) Cholpon Ata History Museum.

Optional: possibility to bathe in open-air thermal pools in a spa complex. Duration -1 hour.
All other services (sauna, massages) or other services are for additional payment and prior arrangement with the group, if the other participants do not mind waiting for this time.
Optional: we will visit the Rukh Ordo Cultural Complex. This is the only open-air museum of its kind on the shores of Issyk-Kul Lake. On the territory of the complex there are exhibitions of dozens of sculptures and hundreds of paintings made in a variety of techniques, handicrafts, which have been carefully passed down from generation to generation.
After the visits we drive to the hotel on the shore of Issyk Kul lake.
Breakfast at the hotel and transfer across the northern shore of Issyk Kul lake to a beautiful area on the border with Kazakhstan – the Karkara valley. It is situated on the eastern part of Issyk Kul Lake, just along the border with Kazakhstan. This is a centre for trekking and mountaineering. * To enter the Karkara area you must have a border permit, it takes about 2-3 weeks to do so.
Our vehicle will drive along the mountain road, through snowy hills and into the Karkara region. Here we stayed in a luxurious yurt camp with private bathrooms.

Time to explore the area by hiking the canyon or you can climb the nearest hill for a panoramic view.
Possibility to take a bath in a local sauna in the afternoon (30min, for one person).

Optional: It is also possible to go skiing or snowmobiling (with a driver and at an additional cost). You can bring your own skis or rent them in Bishkek. The snow level can reach 60-120 cm.
After breakfast, we continue our journey to Karakol, a town located east of the lake, at the foot of the most picturesque mountains of Tien Shan. This sleepy but interesting old Russian town was built by the Cossacks in the mid-19th century and became an important settlement that grew up around a military garrison. On the way we will visit the Museum of N. M. Przhevalski, the eminent Russian explorer of the Asian continent.
On arrival in Karakol, we will visit a Dungana Mosque, a unique building in Chinese style but used for Muslim worship. We will also see an ancient Russian Orthodox Church – “The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity”, made of wood without a single nail.
Lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, transfer to the Djety Oguz gorge to admire the landscape and take some photographs.
At the entrance of the gorge we can see the famous rock “Split Heart”. Walk further to the scenic spot to see the “Seven Bulls” rocks with white colours all over.
Return to Karakol in the afternoon.
Dinner with a local Dungan family.
The Dungans are a Chinese minority who escaped to Central Asia in the mid-19th century. Travelling across the mountains, the Dungans began to spread their culture and mix it with the locals, creating new traditions in architecture, cuisine and lifestyle in general.
Demonstration of the preparation of a traditional dish – lagman, which is a very popular and appreciated food in Central Asia. A Dungana lady will show us how to make this extra long spaghetti the traditional way. You can try making your own lagman! It’s quite tricky and you may not get it right, but the fun is guaranteed! After the activity you can try the homemade lagman – it’s delicious!
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning we drive to the Karakol ski base to take the funicular to a place with a spectacular view of the Tup valley at 3000 m above sea level.
Duration of stay at the ski base: from 09:00 to 12:00. Optional: you can rent skis and do some hiking on the slopes.
Return to Karakol. Lunch at a restaurant in the town of Karakol.
We continue our way along the southern bank of the Issyk Kul to the village of Bokonbaevo. Here we meet a local eagle hunter.
Two types of performances can be organized:
– Fox hunt (with artificial bait).
– Live rabbit hunt
At the end of the demonstration, the hunter will talk about the characteristics and peculiarities of falconry and the birds used, a special moment for photographs and the opportunity to have the bird on your forearms!
Such a demonstration during winter has its unique charm because the birds are in the best shape for the hunting season and feel very good about it.
After the demonstration, you will stay in a guest house.

In the morning we will visit a local women’s cooperative where they produce felt and carpets in the traditional way.
Carpets are essential in any Kyrgyz household. Not only do they protect from the cold, they are also very important for decoration – don’t miss the opportunity to try your hand at rug making! After the demonstration, you can visit their popular atesania shop, where you can buy something made in-house.
Return to Bishkek via the Kuvaky Pass to enjoy a spectacular view of the frozen Orto Tokoi reservoir.
Lunch at your own expense and free.
On arrival in Bishkek, overnight in a hotel.
Dinner at a local restaurant with a folkloric show.
At the time of your flight, transfer to the airport and end of services.
